On 5 October 2021, Ambassador Makawadee paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Tenzin Lekphell, Secretary General of BIMSTEC and informed him about Thailand’s preparations to assume BIMSTEC chairmanship next year. Thailand will propose Bio, Circular and Green economy as the model for recovery of sustainable development in the post-COVID era. Thailand also hopes to strengthen trade and connectivity through numerous schemes such as BIMSTEC free trade agreement, the establishment of marine transport routes that can shorten time and reduce cost as well as the development of the trilateral highway between Thailand, Myanmar and India that Bangladesh is interested to join.
