Relaxation of regulations to enter Thailand and procedures of the quarantine

From 1 April 2021,

  • Travelers from Bangladesh without vaccine certificates must undergo no less than 10-day quarantine.
  • Travelers who have completed the full course of vaccination, as required by the respective vaccine manufacturers, at least 14 days prior to their departure may be eligible for no less than 7-day quarantine. The following vaccines have been approved by World Health Organization and the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand:
  • Vaccines with 2 (two) doses required

      (1)  CoronaVac of Sinovac Life Science

                  (2)  AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine of AstraZeneca 

                  (3)  AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine of SK Bioscience (Korea)

                  (4)   Pfizer – BIONTECH COVID-19 vaccine of Pfizer Inc.

                  (5)  COVISHIELD (ChAdOx1_nCoV-19) of Serum Institute of India

                  (6)  Moderna COVID-19 vaccine of ModernaTx Inc.

                  (7)  Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine of the Beijing Institute of Biological Products

  • Vaccine with 1 (one) dose required

                  Janssen COVID-19 vaccine of Janssen Biotech Inc., a Janssen Pharmaceutical Company of Johnson & Johnson   

  • Travelers must present vaccine certificates in English, issued by the competent Bangladeshi authorities, which provide the following details:

(1) The number of doses travelers have received as required by the vaccine manufacturers.

(2) The date on which travelers are given a second dose must be no less than 14 days prior to their departure for Thailand.

(3) The batch number of the vaccine.

(4) The vaccine must be registered under the Thai law or approved by the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand.

  • For non-Thai nationals, Fit-to-Fly certificates will no longer be required. However, COVID-19 Negative certificates based on an RT-PCR test is mandatory. The RT-PCR test must be done within 72 hours before departure from their port of origin. In addition, Certificates of Entry, health insurances and Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ) or Alternative Local Quarantine (ALQ) or other quarantine facility booking confirmation are required.
  • In case the details provided in the vaccine certificate are not complete, the Embassy reserves the right to request additional documents related to the vaccine certificate from travelers.

By virtue of Section 9 of the Emergency Decree on Public Administration in Emergency Situations B.E. 2548 (2005) and Section 11 of the State Administration Act B.E. 2534 (1991), the entry of non-Thai nationals into Thailand is permitted for the following categories of persons:

(1) CATEGORY 3: Persons on diplomatic or consular missions or under International organizations, or representatives of foreign governments or agencies performing their duties in Thailand, or any other persons in international agencies, that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs gives permission pertaining to necessity, including their spouse, parents, or children;

(2) CATEGORY 6: Non-Thai nationals who are spouses, parents, or children of Thai nationals;

(3) CATEGORY 7: Non-Thai nationals who have a certificate of residence, or have been permitted to take up residency in the Kingdom, including their spouses or children;

(4) CATEGORY 8: Non-Thai nationals who have a work permit or have been granted permission to work in the Kingdom in accordance with Thai laws, including their spouses or children;

(5) CATEGORY 9: Non-Thai nationals who are students of educational establishments in Thailand approved by Thai authorities, including their parents or guardians, except for students of non-formal schools in accordance with laws on private schools or of any other similar private educational establishments;

(6) CATEGORY 10: Non-Thai nationals who need to receive medical treatment in Thailand, including their accompanying persons, except for treatment for COVID-19.

(7) CATEGORY 11: Non-Thai nationals who are permitted to enter the Kingdom under a special arrangement with a foreign country or have been granted permission by the Prime Minister. As of 21 October 2020, this consists of the following groups:

  1. Approved Thailand Elite Member
  2. APEC Card Holder
  3. Long Stay Visitor
  • Non-Immigrant O-A Visa Holder
  • Non-Immigrant O-X Visa Holder
  1. Medium-Term Visitor
  • Tourist-TR Visa (Single Entry)
  • Businessman and Investor (Non-Immigrant B Visa) [1]
  1. Special Tourist Visa (Tourist-STV) [2]
  2. Approved Film Crew Member

TOURIST-TR VISA (SINGLE ENTRY)

The following conditions are for applicants who wish to apply for a Tourist-TR Visa
(Single Entry only)

  1. TR Visa is valid for a single entry into Thailand for tourism purposes only.
  2. TR Visa is valid for 3 months from the date of issuance. Travelers must enter Thailand within the said 3-month period. They will be allowed to stay in Thailand for a period of up to 60 days, counting from the date of entry. The extension is possible for another 30 days, with a maximum period of stay of 90 days, counting from the date of entry.
  3. If TR Visa holders breach the entry conditions (for example, if he/she engages in work-related activities), the stay permit will be revoked and he/she will be prohibited from entering Thailand in the future.
  4. To apply for Certificates of Entry in this category, applicants are required to submit the following documents:
    • A completed Declaration Form;
    • Health insurance guaranteeing that the insurance company will cover a minimum of 100,000 USD (or equivalent in other currencies) of medical costs incurred by the applicants in Thailand, including medical costs in the event that the applicants contract COVID-19 (The insurance must cover the whole duration of stay in Thailand);
    • A confirmation of booking of Alternative State Quarantine (ASQ) in Bangkok, or ALQ in Chonburi province, or Prachinburi province only (For more information on ASQs, go to at hsscovid.com and authororised platforms for reservation are

    • A copy of round-trip flight confirmation/reservation showing traveling from Dhaka to Thailand and departing from Thailand (The names of the applicants must be indicated clearly);
    • Copy of recent bank statement (60,000 Bangladeshi Taka per person and 120,000 Bangladeshi Taka per family). The names of the applicants must be indicated clearly), In case of submitting a family bank statement, proof of relationship (i.e. birth certificate, marriage certificate) must be provided.

SPECIAL TOURIST VISA (TOURIST-STV)

  1. STV is valid for a single entry into Thailand for long-term tourism purposes only.
  2. STV is valid for 3 months from the date of issuance. Travelers must enter Thailand within the said 3-month period. They will be allowed to stay in Thailand for a period of up to 90 days, counting from the date of entry. STV may be extended twice while the visitor is in Thailand for a period of up to 90 days per each extension.
  3. STV cannot be changed to any other type of visa during the duration of stay in Thailand.
  4. If the STV holder breaches the entry conditions (for example, if he/she engages in work-related activities), the stay permit will be revoked and he/she will be prohibited from entering Thailand in the future.
  5. Eligibility
    • Applicants are not prohibited from entering the Kingdom as provided by the Immigration Act B.E. 2522 (1979).
    • Applicants must have no criminal record in Thailand or in the country of the applicants’ nationalities and residences.
    • Applicants must not have prohibitive diseases (Leprosy, Tuberculosis, drug addiction, Elephantiasis, third phase of Syphilis) as indicated in the Ministerial Regulation No. 14 B.E. 2535.
  6. To apply for a visa in this category, applicants are required to submit the following documents:
    • A passport valid for more than 12 months from the date of entry into Thailand;
    • A fully paid hotel reservation (after mandatory quarantine in ASQ in Bangkok or ALQ in Chonburi province or Prachinburi province only) until the departure date issued by the hotel showing the duration of stay, and hotel’s contact details and tax ID number;

- Or A fully paid residential lease in Thailand (after mandatory quarantine in ASQ in Bangkok or ALQ in Chonburi province or Prachinburi province) until the departure date issued by the lessor showing the duration of stay, and the lessor’s contact details and tax ID number;
- Or A hire-purchase or mortgage agreement of immovable property (if the payment has been paid by fewer than 2 installments)

- Or A certificate of ownership of a property in Thailand;

- Or Evidence of hire-purchase contract in Thailand with at least two installments paid.

  • Medical insurance covering hospitalization and emergency/accident for the entire period of stay in Thailand, with a coverage for outpatient treatment of no less than 40,000 baht and inpatient treatment of no less than 400,000 baht.   • A medical certificate showing no prohibitive diseases as indicated in the Ministerial Regulation No.14(B.E. 2535) certificate shall be valid for not more than three months
  1. To apply for a Certificate of Entry (COE), applicants must submit the following documents:
    • A completed Declaration Form;
    • Health insurance guaranteeing that the insurance company will cover a minimum of 100,000 USD (or equivalent in other currencies) of medical costs incurred by applicants in Thailand, including medical costs in the event that applicants contract COVID-19 (The insurance must cover the whole duration of stay in Thailand) List of Thai insurance companies participating in the scheme can be found at http://covid19.tgia.org;

    • A copy of round trip flight confirmation/reservation showing traveling from Dhaka to Thailand and departing from Thailand (The names of the applicants must be indicated clearly).
  2. Dependents of Special Tourist Visa Applicants

Dependents of applicants are entitled to apply for the same category of Visa. The additional required documents are as follows;

For Spouse (No age restriction)

A copy of Marriage Certificate in English and required documents listed in No. 6 above must be submitted.

For Child (Under 20 years old)

A copy of Birth Certificate in English and required documents listed in No. 6 above must be submitted. In cases where the child of the STV applicant does not have its own bank account, the applicant can submit, on behalf of the child, the applicant’s bank statement with the equivalent amount of not less than 1,000,000 Baht for the last 6 months in order to cover the applicant and the child’s required bank deposit, where applicable.

TRANSIT VISA

This type of visa is issued to persons who wish to enter the Kingdom for the following purposes:

  • To travel in immediate and continuous transit through the Kingdom en route to another country or
  • To travel back to his/her own country over Thailand (category "TS")
  • To participate in sports activities (sportsmen, sportswomen, etc.) (category "S")
  • The person in charge or crew of a conveyance coming to a port, station or area in the Kingdom (category "C")
  • Transit flight longer than 12 hours 

­TRANSIT PASSENGER (S) Passengers transiting to other destinations outside of Thailand can transit only at Suvarnabhumi International Airport for no more than
12 hours
Their flights must be checked through as they will not be allowed outside of the transit areas to get their luggage for re check-in. (No visa required)

The COE is not required but they must have;

(1) medical certificates with a laboratory result indicating that COVID-19 is not detected (based on an RT-PCR test and issued no more than 72 hours before travelling); and,

(2) travel health insurance (worldwide or including Thailand) covering health care and treatment expenses for COVID-19 disease, or any other guarantee throughout their stay in the Kingdom, with a coverage of no less than 100,000 USD. ) List of Thai insurance companies participating in the scheme can be found at http://covid19.tgia.org

- Transit passengers who need to stop over in Bangkok must have the COE and other requirements in the same way as tourists.

- Passengers arriving in Bangkok must complete their mandatory quarantine in Bangkok before they can transit to other domestic destinations. 

Important Notes

  1. Transit/transfer passengers are not required to register for Certificate of Entry (COE)with the Royal Thai Embassy;
  2. Transit passengers are not allowedto transit at Suvarnabhumi International Airport and immediately travel to other province in Thailand by domestic commercial flight (i.e., Doha – Bangkok – Phuket). If the passengers wish to be quarantined at Phuket, the passengers need to travel directly from abroad to Phuket (i.e., Singapore – Phuket). Otherwise, the passenger are required to be quarantined in Bangkok, Chonburi and Prachinburi.
  3. There shall be no COVID-19 screening or laboratory service at the transit/transfer area in the airport. In case that the destination port requires COVID-19 test from transit/transfer airport, the passengers will not be able to take COVID-19 test in Suvarnabhumi International Airport during transit period.
  4. Since transit/transfer passengers are not allowed to leave transit/transfer area, the passengers need to check with airlines regarding the check-in baggage. The passengers will not be able to leave transit/transfer area to retrieve the baggage and check in again.
  5. Passengers who wish to transit at Suvarnabhumi International Airport need to book flight ticket in advance at least 48 hours before departure.


Requirements for Visa Application:

  1. A valid passport for travelling to Thailand with sufficient remaining validity (not less than six months);
  2. Visa of third country in a passport or proof of destination visa on arrival (for category TS)
  3. Invitation letter stating the applicant’s participation in sports activities in Thailand
    (for category S)
  4. Seaman book and letter from office in Bangladesh and Thailand for person in charge or crew of a conveyance coming to a port, station or area in Thailand (for category C)
  5. A copy of air ticket or a booking confirmation or an itinerary;
  6. Evidence of adequate finance;
  7. Medical insurance policy (in English) which expressly covers treatment and medical expenses in relation to COVID-19, with minimum coverage of 100,000 USD. The insurance must cover the total duration of stay in Thailand.
  8. Proof of relationship (if apply with family link)

Important Information

Please read the following information carefully before submitting your visa application.

  1. Semi-Commercial Flights– Those wishing to go to Thailand have options to travel by semi-commercial flights as currently no airlines are operating direct passenger flights between Dhaka and Bangkok.

  1. Every visa applicant (including tourist visa applicant), in addition to a Thai visa,

        - COVID19 health insurance All the visitors are required to obtain COVID-19 health insurance covering COVID-19 medical treatment expenses, worth at least USD 100,000.- covering the entire stay in Thailand as part of the application to obtain COEs.

The insurance policy must clearly state that it includes expenditures occurring from COVID-19 treatment.

[1] A non-Immigrant B visa holder is permitted to stay in Thailand for 90 days. Applicants must have an invitation letter from a Thai company with a registered capital not less than 2 million THB or evidence showing ownership of a condominium/ deposit in a Thai bank/ Thai government bond with face value not less than 3 million THB.

[2] STV is valid for 3 months from the date of issuance. Travelers must enter Thailand within the said 3-month period.
