The Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka organized Muay Thai Deonstration series in Bhutan between 26 June - 1 July 2023.
The main activity was the demonstration held on 1 July 2023 at Thimphu clock tower. H.E. Mrs. Makawadee Sumitmor, Ambassador of Thailand to Bhutan and Dasho Ugen Tsechup Dorji, Honourary Consul General of Thailand to Thimphu addressed the audience. The demonstration was attended by the Foreign Secretary of Bhutan, Dasho Thrompon of Thimphu and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of Bhutan, Thimphu, Thromde, and Bhutan Olympic Committee. There were about 300 attendees in total.
During demonstration, Muay Thai master and instructors from Lanna Fighting Muay Thai demonstrated "Wai Kru" or respect-paying ritual, Muay Thai dance, Muay Thai flight, basics of Muay Thai asnwered questions asked by Muay Thai enthusiasts. The objectives of the demonstrations was to instroduce Muay Thai to Bhutanese in the form of fitness training and self-defense which is in line with the Royal Thai Government's policy to promote 5F (Food, Film, Fashion, Fighting and Festival) as a medium to strengthen people-to-people relations.
Earlier between 26-27 June 2023, demonstrations of Muay Thai were also held at Genekha Primary School in Thimphu and Shaba Primary School in Paro under the Children and Youth Development Project under the Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and between 29-30 June 2023 at private fitness center.
