On 5 December 2021, the Royal Thai Embassy in Dhaka hosted a reception on the auspicious occasion of the National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand, the Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great and Thailand’s Father’s Day at the residence of the Ambassador. The event was attended by the Chief Guest, His Excellency Mr. Sadhan Chandra Majumder, Member of Parliament, Hon’ble Minister, Ministry of Food. Approximately 150 distinguished guests, including ambassadors, diplomats and representatives of international organisations, business sector and the media, as well as the Thai community in Bangladesh joined the event.

Ambassador Makawadee Sumitmor delivered her remarks by highlighting the late King’s devotion to the well-being of the Thai people and sustainable development of the nation, as well as the long standing cordial relations between Thailand and Bangladesh. Thailand was one of the first countries to recognize Bangladesh’s declaration of independence on 16 February 1972. As for the upcoming 50th Anniversary of bilateral relations in 2022, Ambassador Makawadee believes there is possibility for closer cooperation on climate change and green economy through a “green partnership” to deal with common challenges and create sustainable economic prosperity that is considerate to the environment.

The Minister of Food of Bangladesh offered his felicitations and reiterated Bangladesh’s readiness to promote further cooperation with Thailand, particularly on trade and connectivity such as the link between Ranong Port and Chittagong Port and the intention of Bangladesh to connect with the trilateral highway from India to Myanmar and Thailand. He also urged all parties to render support in resolving the issue of displaced Rohingyas.
The reception was an opportunity to promote Thai culture, including tasty Thai food and the delicate art of fruit carving.
